Donny Hathaway is not even on my radar. After reading about his life a bit and listening to some of his music. I'm blown away......blown away at his talent and the tragedy of his life. And, blown away at how I was able to not even know about his talent. How does this even happen for someone who loves music?
I was the same, looked him up and thought wow how did I miss such a talent!

50 years ago, a high school classmate told me about a Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway album she bought, and I'm like huh? At the time, I was listening to Sabbath, Zep, Alice Cooper, etc. and had heard of Roberta but had no idea who Donny Hathaway was. But she was one of those "artsy" kids who always seemed a bit ahead of the curve when it came to music.

his one and only Quad is an out and out masterpiece, a must have album in any form, imho 😋😍

The only one of these I was familiar with was the Seals & Croft, which I already have a good quad conversion of, so I was not to excited about this batch initially… until I listened to the other albums! The Roberta Flack album is beautiful, and the Donny Hathaway reminds me of the Marvin Gaye album “What’s goin on”. The Hot Tuna offering is sort of a country rock jam, so I think I’m going for the bundle. Can anyone comment on the quality of the quad mixes?

I just put on the record at work. I’ve never heard it and listened to the entire thing. Enjoyed it immensely. Cannot wait to own this on Blu-ray 4.0. Also read up on his sad and unfortunate demise, can’t believe this was his final release and it came out 6 years before his death.

Donny Hathaway was a great singer and his quad release is amazing....He also sang the theme song to the TV show "Maude"....his duet with Roberta is a piece of work!!

missing tapes and it doesn't come under Rhino's umbrella, unfortunately 🤷🏻‍♀️

At one point it was licensed to Rhino a long time ago. Maybe that is the source of some of the confusion. I also see that Sony Legacy also had issued it at sometime.

Never owned anything by Hathaway, but I’ve heard/read David Coverdale mention him many times as someone he listened to a lot before joining Deep Purple.

I think I’m most looking forward to Hot Tuna. Never owned anything by them, either, but have enjoyed streaming Burgers in the last 24 hours.

I'm most looking forward to S&C and Tuna. I have a very clean original vinyl pressing of Summer Breeze and always felt it sounded surprisingly good, as in better than most of the WEA product that was out at the time. The Quadio version will be my go-to now and the vinyl will get some rest.

You actually do know him - from his duets with Roberta Flack - two of the best duets ever IMHO.
He is an astonishing talent in his own right.
You will LOVE this disc when you get it ❤️

from all the hints etc, i think we know what the whole lot are going to be now, it looks like
it's.. 👀🤔

Donny Hathaway "Extension Of A Man",
Roberta Flack "Killing Me Softly",
Hot Tuna "Burgers",
Seals & Crofts "Summer Breeze"

in which case i shall just about blow my floomin' lid..!! 🤯🤭 Donny & Roberta are 2 of my all-time most longed-for WEA Quad reissues.. 🙏🤤 and the other 2 should be good clean fun as well..!! 😋🎉
If those are in fact the 4, this is probably the strongest batch yet, IMHO…YMMV 🥳

At one point it was licensed to Rhino a long time ago. Maybe that is the source of some of the confusion. I also see that Sony Legacy also had issued it at sometime.

Things have changed a lot since then - in 1992 when this CD was released, Rhino was an independent reissue company, distributed by Capitol Records> Later the same year, they changed their distributor to Atlantic Records, and Time-Warner bought a 50% stake in the company that would later increase to 100% in the late '90s. In 2004 Time-Warner (who were hemorrhaging money for many reasons including the insane decision to buy AOL) spun off their music divisions into a new entity called Warner Music Group, and Rhino became part of that.

Meanwhile, BMG (who owned Arista since the mid '80s when they bought it from General Electric, who'd bought it from RCA, who'd bought it from Columbia Pictures) merged with Sony Music Entertainment in 2004 and the Arista recordings now reside under their control.

Or to put it more simply, Rhino today is the in-house reissue label for the Warner family of labels, and other catalogs that they either own or control, much like Legacy does for Sony. They don't need to license recordings from their competitors (nor would either side want to, I'd imagine) given the depth and breadth of the recorded music catalog they own outright.
