I think Warner needs to buy up all the record labels since they come the closets to knowing how to run one and mostly what the consumer would like to see in a release.
IMHO, Rhino has been the Gold Standard of reissue labels for a LONG time.
Having said that…hate the recent decision to bundle vinyl with high res surround discs…
The recent standalone Atmos blu-rays & Quadio campaign are a HUGE step in the right direction 😁

Things have changed a lot since then - in 1992 when this CD was released, Rhino was an independent reissue company, distributed by Capitol Records> Later the same year, they changed their distributor to Atlantic Records, and Time-Warner bought a 50% stake in the company that would later increase to 100% in the late '90s. In 2004 Time-Warner (who were hemorrhaging money for many reasons including the insane decision to buy AOL) spun off their music divisions into a new entity called Warner Music Group, and Rhino became part of that.

Meanwhile, BMG (who owned Arista since the mid '80s when they bought it from General Electric, who'd bought it from RCA, who'd bought it from Columbia Pictures) merged with Sony Music Entertainment in 2004 and the Arista recordings now reside under their control.

Or to put it more simply, Rhino today is the in-house reissue label for the Warner family of labels, and other catalogs that they either own or control, much like Legacy does for Sony. They don't need to license recordings from their competitors (nor would either side want to, I'd imagine) given the depth and breadth of the recorded music catalog they own outright.
Thanks. I suspected as much with respect to Eric Carman, but there were a few posts about it and I didn't have time to research it all to see if there was any merit to the rumor. I think thing have even become much worse even in the last year as far as ownership and right to old recordings. It's all become a tremendous mess as far as I'm concerned.

Donny Hathaway is not even on my radar. After reading about his life a bit and listening to some of his music. I'm blown away......blown away at his talent and the tragedy of his life. And, blown away at how I was able to not even know about his talent. How does this even happen for someone who loves music?
Sadly, he wasn’t around very long.

from all the hints etc, i think we know what the whole lot are going to be now, it looks like
it's.. 👀🤔

Donny Hathaway "Extension Of A Man",
Roberta Flack "Killing Me Softly",
Hot Tuna "Burgers",
Seals & Crofts "Summer Breeze"

in which case i shall just about blow my floomin' lid..!! 🤯🤭 Donny & Roberta are 2 of my all-time most longed-for WEA Quad reissues.. 🙏🤤 and the other 2 should be good clean fun as well..!! 😋🎉
Tell me about why Roberta is in your top WEA quads? Of course her wonderful and huge hit is included, but are the four corners spring loaded with uncommon discreetness of those backing arrangements? Surprisingly appealing quad in the Bette Midler Miss M way? Why exactly is it special to you (besides great tunes)?

i absolutely love the album, the mix is inventive and discrete and my CD-4 (2 copies) and Q8 all have issues of one kind or another, so it will be great to have a superior sounding version on Blu-ray 🤩💘

Would it be accurate to guess that your silence amidst all the speculation about Donny Hathaway being the forth Quadio means that it’s -not- the last one? Or are you just really busy.

I just don't understand this either. Isn't ForagingRhino's only job just to monitor this forum?

I have read these posts - interesting
seems to state he/she knows clues of the next group of upcoming Rhino Quadio - I'll follow and see what we find out....

ForagingRhino is Steve Woolard, an executive at Rhino Records. He's the driving force behind the Quadio program.

No, not silent at all really.
Yes, Donny Hathaway is one of the four
Yes there will very likely be more in roughly three months.
Yes, everyone is staying pretty busy I’m sure.

Great music throughout, but I’m buying the Hathaway quadio just on the strength of Valdez in the Country. Had never heard that song but loving it now. Felt kind of bad that my favorite is one where he doesn’t sing, but he’s playing keys so that makes me feel less guilty.

I’ve been listening to other covers of that song over the past few days. I would have thought Jerry Garcia’s version might end up my favorite version just because it’s extended, but so far nothing has topped the original for me.
