I got the mail as well with the shipping notification for the two missing items. They could have saved all this hassle with a proper communication campaign. Anyway, lesson learned for the next time. Now fingers crossed they will arrive undamaged.

I. also received mail that the last 2 have been sent

Finally, the END of 43 days of suspense. I received my Red Octopus and first order of B$B. What are the chances that this 2nd B$B will track properly? Paranoid tracks perfectly, but B$B cuts off the first second of the tracks. Oh well, I'm strangely ready for round 2 coming in October. To borrow from Pete Townsend (via David Gilmour) and based on spending time in this site, "All (quad) lovers are deranged!" 🙄

I ordered on the day of release, heard nothing, complained and heard nothing back from the service dept.

Then, just out of nowhere they showed up some 4-5 weeks after ordering. First Paranoid then the other three a day or two later. Hope they get this together better for the next batch.

However, major kudos to Rhino Steve for putting these together! Paranoid is superb as expected. Red Octopus I liked about as much as I expected (never heard it, only have Dragonfly of the other J Starship albums), and J.Geils about as little as I expected. I must confess I only got that because the bundle was favourably priced, and it didn’t do much for me.

The great surprise for me was Billion Dollar Babies. I was totally unfamiliar with it and have only heard bits and pieces of earlier Alice Cooper albums, but this is a fantastic album! Much, much better than I expected or even hoped.

They sound fabulous and packaging is nice if a bit bare-bones. Now I am anxious to find out what the next for are. We really, really need some Joni Quads!

I got the rest of the order yesterday. All good. There’s even a hype sticker on B$B.

For me, wow, “Red Octopus” is a real standout and an excellent Rock album with a lot of texture and great musicianship. I first heard the whole album about a week before it came out in stores on KSAN FM radio. Back when that was a thing in the’70s. The DJs would even tell you when to turn on your tape recorders. When the record came out, I bought the Quad, even though I didn’t have CD-4 playback at the time.

Hopefully, everyone gets the rest of their orders. Looking forward to what the next 4 titles will be.

My missing discs should arrive tomorrow. This whole experience with the shitty service from Rhino's fulfillment center has really left a bitter taste. I almost hope the next batch of 4 are albums I won't have any interest in, because I really don't want to deal with such a cluster-fuck of another shipping nightmare.

Rhino really needs to find another company to ship thier products. I doubt I will ever order directly from them again.

I chalk it up to a simple case of being caught off guard by the OVERWHELMING response which RHINO doubtful anticipated. Hopefully, when the next batch is announced and ready to ship, they will either change shippers or concurrently release them to other vendors like Amazon, Deep Discount, ImportCD et alia.

It would certainly make more sense!

But at least we do know they sold WELL which bodes well for future QUADIO releases!

I'd have a much more bitter taste in my mouth if they simply stopped putting out more quad titles. In the end, I had limited communication from tracking, broken cases, etc. But, I wouldn't change getting this awesome quad stuff for anything. When the next titles are announced......I will be onboard immediately. Whoopee, bring on the next set!!

Which begs the question, WHY SACD cases which are more delicate than other enclosures? Sure it's a classy touch but they ARE Pure Audio BD~As and would probably be more identifiable if they were either in clear Pure Audio BD~A cases [larger but MORE durable] or go the MoFi route with sturdy cardboard covers.

The super jewel cases strike a balance imo. They are more identifiable as a unique item, they looks classy as hell, and they kept the cost at a price point that most of us could afford, which made us snap up all of them in one purchase. You then get into a higher $30 and $35 discs with mini-LP style gatefolds with glued slicks, etc. BD discs do not fit on CD shelves that well.

So what we ended up with is nicely mastered discs (maybe not Kevin Gray or Chris Bellmen audiophile intensity) that are not compressed and brick-walled, pretty much top Warners album titles, cool clean presentation (looks), and a fine and fair price point.

I hope the next four titles and the ones after that are consistent in their physical presentation with these - and that we can get used to this same look, sound, and price point, and the really great albums we've all talked about.

And yes I'm going to need to buy a couple of SACD style replacment cases here.

Somehow the Aug. 3 release date seemed to stick with Rhino fulfillment for a large number of orders (early first & second day orders), just for two of the titles. And when that got straightened out, the early first orders to be placed did not then get sent out but remained on hold, while other later orders (for the two discs) were sent out, but not very quickly.

I'd have been more sore over the whole ordeal but:

1. I liked saving costs on the bundle deal
2. Liked the free shipping discount deal
3. I got Paranoid and Geils to listen to fairly quickly while I waited (yes too long) for the others to arrive.
4. The promise of more Quadios coming soon enough on more top tier quad masters.
5. Rhino has come up with the goods (finally) while other labels have not offered any new quadraphonic for a very long while.

Maybe, just maybe, RHINO is getting their shipping & customer service issues worked out! One can always hope.
For a large number of orders, that incorrect Aug. 3 release date seems to have been an issue that they could not overcome. When they fixed this error, the fix did not take for a substantial number of early orders. Looks to me like an east coast shipping center was able to fix this wrong release date, and the west coast dept. was not.

At any rate, the discs are great as folks have been reporting. Looks like Amazon will have access to the Quadio line in the near future. Maybe Rhino fulfillment needs some strong competition to get their asses moving.

Nice article! One of the best things about this surround hobby is getting a fresh and new perspective listen to old albums that had become stale through over hearing.

My copy of Paranoid arrived at the weekend and I'm really enjoying it. It took 2 and a half weeks to arrive from Rhino US, which I was pleased with. I ordered Billion Dollar Babies at the same time, but there's no sign of that yet though, Paranoid arrived on its own.
