So if there is an element that hits me wrong, or is too much or too little by my tastes, I try to think of possible explanations for it, but the setup is about the last thing I consider because I'm well aware of how other mixes sound on my system and therefore have a baseline
While you are contemplating explanations, I am dialing in the settings to make each and every song sound the best possible on my setup, in my room.

2. A shipping notice from ImportCDs for this set, when they had previously stated that it was back ordered and would ship in May.
It must make Homer Simpson happy that we now have the UK Quad, US Quad, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos versions. I don't believe that I ever saw this one (0:42 long):

I think if Dweezil could have mixed Homer into the heights in his mix, we’d be much more unified as a forum in it being one of the best Atmos mixes ever created.

Someone with better Photoshop skills than me should replace Gillan on the album cover with Homer.
Well, there are some ‘weird’ noises in the Dweezil mix that i haven’t heard before…

I experienced two unusual events today:

1. A magnitude 4.8 quake with the epicenter 15 miles away.

2. A shipping notice from ImportCDs for this set, when they had previously stated that it was back ordered and would ship in May.

Regarding item 2, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, as they say.
So how is it going now, per the earthquake? Sounds like scary stuff.

We have gotten a few aftershocks and more are expected. The 6 pm aftershock was magnitude 4.0 and it rumbled the house for 13 seconds. (Wife timed it.)

I wouldn't call it scary, although some people were indeed frightened. Unfortunately, several residences in Newark, NJ shifted and are now unoccupiable.

When I studied soil mechanics, the prof told us that there had been a couple of 5 magnitude quakes in this area over the last few hundred years. Also, my house rumbles from time to time for a couple of seconds due to minor temblors. So I've been kind of waiting for one of these larger ones to finally show up.

The 2011 Virginia quake was interesting. I was sitting in my office on the 20th floor reading a document. I looked out the window and felt the building go up and down as the wave passed under it. My co-worker came out of his office and said, "Did the building just go up and down, or do I need to be on meds?"

Thanks. I truly hope you and yours stay safe. Still sounds scary for this Florida boy.

I am just gonna have to assume the earthquake happened because someone was testing if the bass on the Atmos mix was sufficient.

My Machine Head 50th has not moved at Deep Discount at all. They have raised the price on the set by $10 since I ordered. I can see it was a enticement to get preorders happening.

As I’d mentioned my two LPs I ordered at the same time have arrived and are great. And if I get my Purple 50th set as ordered I will have it for $66.53 incl. tax and shipping. I’m just slightly irked that they have had more than five long days to ship it out now. And my order page does not have any info about a delay or expected ship date.

I’ll call them and inquire nicely about when they plan to ship. Hope my kind calmness works on them.

Dynamic Editor wins the internet today.

I hope everyone is safe.
Yeah yeah, so much bass it caused an earthquake now. Try to make a comment on bass, wow... earthquakes now.

( :D Hope everyone is ok!)

Here is the new tool that I was telling @mandrix about. It determines the relative adequacy of the measured bass frequencies in an Atmos mix. It is also handy for boasting that, "My subwoofer is better than your subwoofer."

I suspect that's my observation as well. Certainly at higher volumes, I could feel the impact. I normally don't listen that loud either.
I just ripped the ATMOS to a 7.1 wav file. I have an ATMOS receiver and 7.1 with no height channels so this is the best way of me doing it. Then I just boosted all the channels equally (except for the LFE which I left alone), so that everything was a lot louder. Now I don't have to crank everything up as much. I "volume correct" a lot of releases in this way.

I realize this is a very subjective question, but I already own the multi-channel DVD-A and 25th anniversary CD of this release, no longer play vinyl, my system is 5.1 and I don’t anticipate moving into the Atmos realm in the foreseeable future, so is it worth the current retail price for the 2024 remaster, remix, and quad release for an old man who was a big fan of this album when it was first released, but only listens to it sporadically these days?

Given your position I would just stick with the 5.1 for now and save your money for something else.

Maybe you'll get lucky and Rhino will put this out as a standard Quadio in a year or so. I think the quad is definitely something you would want to have for $25 ,,,,, $80, not so much.
