I finally got a chance to watch The Godfather in 4k; believe the reviews. It is beautiful.
I misunderstood the literature though, all 3 versions of III are in 4k so that is indeed a nice bonus.

Just received my copy yesterday. Yes, all three Godfather III cuts are included in Native UHD4K and there is a BD~V of bonus features, as well.

Also received THE LAST WALTZ in Native UHD4K today.

Have a lot of viewing to catch up on!

Coming April 19th from Criterion with a classic soundtrack that'll knock your socks off

For all you diehard Trekkies, Paramount will release Robert Wise's Director's Edition of Star Trek The Motion Picture later this year

I watched this on BD the other night and it's still a fun one with a decent surround mix.

It'd be good if also included a version that replaced those awfully animated special effects at the beginning with some decent CGI. Once they get where they're going, Doug's special effects are as tip-top as can be. It's just the few at the start that need a good going-over.

Can someone comment on this release? How is the 5.1 mix?

Sorry, love it for the 1967 historic performances, not the surround.

I don't have the box, but stream it on the Criterion Channel, which unfortunately is limited to stereo.
It's a favorite, especially with all the out-takes and bonus material in the "complete" edition.

According to @riskylogic on his live concert megathread over at shf.tv, I'm not missing much surround-wise, unfortunately.
Cranked loud in stereo or upmixed, I get so into the music, vibes & images, I don't notice.

As for surround, there isn’t much.
The center channel is used, but I wouldn’t say the vocals are discrete and there is only a smidge of reverb in the back.

Music – 3
Sound quality – 3
Video presentation – 3
Video quality – 1
Surround – 1

In glorious hi-res Mono!
So, in this case, Entirely Not In Surround. ;)

(Brian Wilson & Phil Spector approved this post.)

So put your socks back on and SULK. The film was made in 1956 when Stereo Sound was only for big blockbuster Hollywood epics...and in some cases 3D ....NOT DOUBLE D

Sorry Davey:
THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT!

See the source image

Don't I Make you feel all Wavey, Davey...you BIG Nebraska boys !!!

Thanksfor sharing the link. I must have missed this review, because I generally read that thread :)
Sounds like a release to get regardless.
I don't have access to the Criterion channel in my country, but I can easily get the 2x blu-ray from a local store for a decent price.

Here is Blu.Ray.com's review of the COMPLETE Monterey Pop Festival. He much prefers the 2.0 mix and ascertains the 5.1 mix is ambient ONLY!

Great, thank you! The reviewer's opinion is not that clear. It seems the remix is technically superior and the 5.1 further expands on the immersion of the mix, but he prefers the original? Fair enough.
I prefer the original Stereo track, but the remixed track is indeed vastly superior, providing better stability, clarity, and overall balance. The 5.1 track further expands the dynamic range, but I also think that it brings a different type of ambience to the film.

Highest recommendation for the film as long as one has informed expectations for the surround aspect.
Watching a bit last night put a huge smile on my face. Otis backed by ‘67 Booker T & the MGs, etc, etc.

I watched the entirety of the new Criterion Native UHD4K remaster of Scorsese's THE LAST WALTZ last night and can report it's uniformly EXCELLENT. Pic and sound were spectacular. I chose the DTS HD~MA 5.1 option .... Stereo and Stereo Surround are also offered. As the intro to the disc states: PLAY THIS DISC LOUD ... and I did. Not a one anomaly to these ears. The included BD~V ain't too shabby either. Also gratifying to see The Band and all their illustrious guest stars looking so FOREVER YOUNG!

Also glad I have the spectacular Warner MLP DVD~A 5.1 as a companion. Includes the entire concert

Interesting, as the director's cut of The Wrath of Khan was included (on the same disc as the theatrical cut; the 4K restoration had previously only been available on streaming or as a digital copy).
Yeah, the director's cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture was only available on DVD. All of the Blu-ray releases were the theatrical cut. This will be the first release of the TMP DC since the DVD, and I am absolutely here for it.

And if you take the time to read the article supplied above [from highdefdigest], Robert Wise 'updated' the CGI/special effects to smooth out any previous anomalies and they are part of the new Paramount Native UHD4K remaster.

Yep, and all of that was originally mastered in SD, which is why it's taken this long to get a new Blu/UHD release (Paramount has notoriously been very cheap when it comes to the Blu releases of the Prime-universe Trek movies).

I just received this a few days ago. One of my favorite concert films. HOWEVER, the volume on the interviews of the The Band are really low. You have to jack up the volume and then crank it down low when the concert sequences resume. Anyone else notice this, (or are my 76 year old ears having issues ?)
