Price: $184.78

Does this thing really exist? Has anyone received it from Japan? Genesis seems more like Exodus these days.

I have a feeling[i've read about this elsewhere]that Rhino's invoking the parallel import law to block the imports from coming into the US to force us to buy the American cd/dvd version.

You can get the box SACD/NTSC from HMV Japan at the following link. I ordered in late December.....after one e-mail that it was delayed, it shipped the following day, Dec 27th, and was at my front door from Japan on the 30th! Shipping is a litte steep but if you buy 3 items, you get a multi-buy discount. Price for my box without shipping was $178. Good luck!

By the way, the box sounds fantastic.....much better than the first two. Not sure what happened but it's more dynamic and less bright than the previous 2. I am listening to SACD multi-channel. Brilliant.

Following this link, the HMV site lists this set as the "EUR Edition"
Specifically, under Item Details it says:
This version issued: 10 Nov 2008
Catalogue Number: W5196872
Label: Virgin
Item sourced from: Europe

Does this mean it's the same as the British edition, with PAL DVD format? I know it claims "DVD:NTSC Region All " but I'd like to be sure that it isn't a typo...has anyone with the HMV product verified that the DVDs are in fact NTSC?

Also, a related question: I ordered the British import from another source but haven't opened it yet and am considering whether to return it and get the HMV one instead. My Oppo player is supposed to handle PAL format, but I've never tried it out...are there any issues related to signal degradation, image stuttering, etc. when converting PAL if I just keep the PAL version?

Thanks for any advice,
Philip Brandes

Good grief; that was a quick cancel so thjey must've FUBAR'd this item once again. I had the preorder on file for a couple months before it cancelled.

I see now that the ordering option for this has been removed. It's amazing what a total cluster this has been.

I have to say that the Rhino version in DTS 96/24 is quite excellent. I have the first 2 sets in SACD and much prefer this set - maybe the SACD version is beyond belief but there appears to be so much "tsouris" about this that I would recommend the Rhino set in a heartbeat - especially with "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" - the slide show that accompanies the DTS track is pretty damn cool - can't see it on the SACD.

Yes, as I stated in the post, this is the link to the NTSC set. It is NTSC. I would scan the outer packaging that is on the bottom of the box..with SACD logo, NTSC, etc but I don't have a scanner. Go ahead and order. it's awesome.

OK, I ordered the darn thing AGAIN from hmv and this time they say the order will arrive on Jan. 9 (as opposed to Feb. 21 when I ordered in on Dec. 23). Of course the price did go up...
I think we all need to have a word with Peter, Tony, Phil, Steve, Mike and everyone else involved with this.

I believe with the NTSC version you get the both versions. The SACD on my system with discreet amps for all channels always sounds better to my ears although the DTS always sound great too. That's why I've been holding out and searching for the SACD with all this craziness between Japanese sites and US based sites cancelling. Looks like maybe this time it will work out.

Well, the latest on my order page says the other two discs that I ordered (for the 25% 3-buy discount) are "ready" and the Genesis Box Set? Now showing "on order" and a date of Jan. 13. I'll believe it when I hear it.

I had to wait as well because the best deal is the 3 disc deal. In my case the box set was ready, but not one of the discs. I've had Good luck with HMV, with super fast shipping from Japan once shipped out. The shipping was $32 with a DVD-A, shipped in a proper brown box. At least HMV knows what a SACD and DVD-Audio is.

Only the Japanese box sets are supposedly NTSC region 0 on the DVDs from what I’ve read elsewhere.

Latest update. HMV now listing Feb. 13 as delivery date. I'm assuming that's 2009 but one never knows. Has anyone gotten this box from HMV lately in the last couple of months. Anyone know if the SACD/DVDA-NTSC is available ANYWHERE? There has to be a box of these things somewhere.

Its no wonder the format is in such bad shape - people have to jump through hoops just to buy the damn discs

A few of us got em mid December. It looks like they ran out after that.

Yep, that’s when I got mine. However, I didn’t get the first 2 Box Sets until Oct – Nov of last year 2008. I had to wait, no money. Waiting helped because by then the price came down (Box Set 2 went down to $120 and much less) from the original price and it was easy to get the version you wanted. But then again who wants to wait when you’re on the last chapter and want to finish your collection.

They should have just made ALL the Box Sets SACD to begin with, at a reasonable price.

Rhino used to be so cool that Warner had to hire them to translate their vaults into CDs thru the 1990s and beyond.

Except for a handful of quality vanity short runs (5000 copies), they seem to just follow whatever the corporate masters (Atlantic, etc) dictate. This results in decisions that exhibit a lack of testicular fortitude for DVD-A despite the fact that Graham Nash could insist that even in 2008 his album would be released as intended.

On the other side of the coin, Nick Davis prefers SACD and convinced the band that this would be the way to go. Since Atlantic had never issued SACD, it punted the decision down to using DVD-V DTS as the solution.

The real pisser is that nobody at the band or management level stood up to defend the North American fans of 35 years to insure they got the top drawer formats. The secondary issue of poor import distribution has already been discussed at length.

OK then ... just to confuze the issue ... <G>

The NTSC import lists 5 SACDs and 5 DVDs.

The PAL version lists 7 SACDs and 6 DVDs ...

Along with the five studio albums is an extras disc full of rarities including Genesis Plays Jackson, an aborted soundtrack project for a BBC Art film on the work of painter Michael Jackson and unreleased footage of an extraordinary performance at Shepperton Studios.

Er ... and just when I thought I had a handle onnit ... Great Googlemoogly ...

(BTW ... I also found "Lamb Lies Down" in SACD/DVD for $29.95 ... now THAT sounds like a deal. AssUming you can ever get it. Alas, that's also listed as "To Be Announced" the shipping date.)

Also BTW ... I was one of the fortunate few who sat in on the Lamb road tour ... the full theatrical production - start to finish - no intermission. They played the Dome at Grand Valley State College in Allendale, Michigan of all places. Why? Seems they owed a debt of gratitude to the local DJs who were apparently the first to play their stuff here in the states.

Ever been to a concert where the applause was deafening?

Ever been to one where the audience sat in stunned silence for a full minute when it was all over and THEN exploded?
All I can say is ... wOw ...

I just missed seeing the Lamb tour as I got into them 3 months too late. I was told what I missed!

Much of the description information is clueless; the number of discs is the same for the SACD/DVD package (7/6) whether it's PAL or NTSC. The published specs for this set have been handled poorly and many errors exist in listings.
