Re the Beach Boys are the encoded tracks just the ones from Sunflower and Surf's Up?

No there are also tracks from 15 Big Ones, Keeping The Summer Alive -entire albums in DY-4D, as well as a few tracks (which may or may not be the few Dynaquad tracks from: Love You and Carl and The Passions-So Tough.

Katatonia: Fall of Hearts. Is is just me or is the bass a mess? Some parts boomy, some parts too quiet. Not a smooth, fluid sound. I has previously played BOY Agents of Fortune and the bass sounded really good.

I ran Audyssey and my set up still is not right. Now certain bass frequencies make the whole room vibrate. The bass guitar is no louder. Everything is a mess. £2000 on room treatments and it sounded perfect before.

Thanks for the suggestion Lute! :D

Here's one I've just received. Let me say that I'm loving this music a lot. I had never heard of that composer before and I'll be getting the 1 & 2 very soon. The recording itself sounds amazing and it really makes you feel like you're there. These discs are also quite affordable which is a win/win scenario.

Alexander Scriabin wrote some gorgeous music. This mysterious composer's music is definitely worth checking out.

These BIS SACDs performed by pianist Yevgeny Sudbin should also be at the top of the wishlist:

Scriabin: Piano Sonatas Nos. 2, 5 & 9 - Sudbin
Medtner, Scriabin: Piano Concertos - Sudbin, Litton

And while I'm at it, allow me the pleasure of recommending an excellent SACD by a Montréal native. Janina Fialkowska and the Chamber Players of Canada have a delightful recording of Mozart's piano concerto nos. 11 & 12 on the Atma Classique label.

Ogre - Plague of the Planet - DVD-A PCM 4.0

The liner notes, too good not to share:

OGRE is a real Hard-Rock-Band. This music has till now not contains in our repertoire. But fans means after a test listening, that we should produce so much modern music. It is not the usual music of those Rock-Bands, because the different tracks of the production are sections from a coherent science-fiction story about the possible future of the planet and the human race. It is music with a concept and a message.
Playing the stereo CD, one must listen the whole music without interruption. But we have set inaudible marks, so that the listener can select individual songs. With this music each listener can push his quadraphonic or surround set to a top performance till it may steam. There are listen roaring guitars by assistance from a rousing drum and a voice of the singer as Alice Cooper could do it not better. Also is worked with synthesizers.
The band means, one should listen their music so loud as possible. Some time before OGRE has produced 2 other productions on stereo CD's. But for their third recording they have asked us, if we could make additional a quadraphonic remix. This we have done now for your astonishing enjoying.

True 4.0, this should be right up bigshot's alley...@:

Currently listening to the new "Full Sail" Multichannel SACD by Loggins & Messina from Audio Fidelity, and I definitely feel a '9' vote coming on for this one! :)

Holland Baroque

So, Brett, what happened to your brief love affair with HEAVY METAL?

Indeed, Ralph! Whatever happened to Brett Zeppelin.!! :D

Meantime, it would be wonderful if Brett could use his Japanese skills to reach out to Sony Japan and see if they can be persuaded to expand their Quad SACD programme beyond Jeff Beck..?

Just a thought..

Funny, I WAS thinking the same but who knows how the Japanese mind works. They DO cater to a Japanese market as I was repeatedly told on the old SA~CD.net forum. And the Japanese are NOT heavily into surround.......actually, quite the opposite.

Yaa.. I've heard all that about the Japanese not being into Surround (small rooms and all that, being one of many things bandied about) and that they do have a healthy Hi-Res Stereo market.. but there must be some interest in Surround out there otherwise Sony Japan would not have released more of these Jeff Beck albums on Surround SACD not just including the Quad as some afterthought or bonus but the Quad nature is integral to the product, the Quad appears to be the centrepiece of the packages, if you will... so would Sony Japan have released these subsequent Surround SACDs for a non-existent domestic market?
Or maybe they are all being exported to Engrish speaking nations? Hmm..

What I think we'd ALL LOVE is if SONY would start releasing ALL the Santana QUADS as hybrid SACDs in that lush packaging or create the equivalent of the Chicago Quadio Release as ONE BIG boxset [hopefully at a reduced price].

Beyond that, Adam, doubtful SONY will dabble in lesser QUAD artists and risk poor sales. Those days are OVER. BIG profits or NO dice! And ironically, SONY has not even made any attempt to release the hundreds of CD~4 RCA catalogue titles. Wonder if they ever will?

Hmm.. (I really need to get to sleep but I can't quit you Ralphie! :D ) .. not sure I totally agree that Sony Japan have no popular Quad artists to release as Surround SACD beyond Jeff Beck - theoretically - I'm thinking they've possibly got access to Quads by many other acts.

Personally I'd love to see Sony redo all the Quads on SACD of the following acts..
Aerosmith, Andy Williams, Argent, Art Garfunkel, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Billy Paul, Blood Sweat & Tears, Blue Oyster Cult, Bob Dylan, Buddy Miles, Byrds, Chase, Dave Mason, Earth Wind & Fire, Edgar Winter, Harold Melvin, Herbie Hancock, Isley Brothers, Janis Ian, Janis Joplin, Johnnie Taylor, Johnny Mathis, Johnny Winter, Labelle, Loggins & Messina, Maynard Ferguson, MFSB, Miles Davis, Minnie Riperton, Miracles, Mountain, Neil Diamond, O'Jays, Paul Simon, Poco, Reo Speedwagon, Return To Forever, Rick Derringer, Santana, Simon & Garfunkel, Ted Nugent, Tower Of Power, Weather Report, West Bruce & Laing, Wild Cherry...and beyond! :p

Maybe Sony Japan could even consider some Quad by any of those artists or other artists thats previously unreleased, just as AF managed to do..?

It'll probably never happen, more's the pity.. but if any label can get a load more great old Quad out in a modern format sounding better than ever, I can go to my grave a happy chappy, clutching my copy of Winelight, with a big cheesy grin on my mug! ..and on that note, I bid you adieu! :D

...the levee has broken, dudes.

And...I have been off on a misty mountain hop in the Sounds & Clouds courtesy of Jared Sacks. Fantastic album! Of course the Vivaldi is good, but it's the atmospheric performances of Hosokowa's music that I find so intoxicatingly irresistible.

Actually, I've been wondering what the h*** we're going to do when Channel stops producing SACDs.

Downloads!? Egad!!
