Funny, I'm spinning the recently acquired (from Mexico) Exciter. I've been picking these up lately but decided to go the DTS DVD route.

No matter which format you end up with, those surround mixes have a lot going on and are quite (for me at least) enjoyable. Hope you can find the ones you want.

Playing now:

R.E.M. - Around The Sun (DVD-A)

I also love those R.E.M. 5.1 mixes a lot. Simply sublime!

I've had this one for a few months now and find I skip the first five (they seem strangely out of place to me) and start with Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon. It's truly an impressive disc, 25 Or 6 To 4 is a neck hair raiser.

Hi everyone! :)

Depeche Mode - Violator (SACD)

When Clean starts, it vaguely reminds one of the beginning of Pink Floyd's One Of The Days. This is when my mind starts thinking of what Meddle would sound like in multichannel...

I love all the multichannel Depeche Mode releases. I cannot wait to finally add the Delta Machine Blu-Ray to my collection.

Unfortunately, the "Delta Machine" surround mix really sucks, not to mention that the Blu-ray authoring is terrible, for a myriad of reasons!
I wouldn't get it unless you're either a huge Depeche Mode fan or you have a lot of interest in the live concert that makes up the main bulk of that set.

IF you like Beach Boys, YOU NEED THIS!!

It's too bad nothing more was released. 'Til I Die would be superb in surround. I love the multichannel mix of Sail On Sailor! I never got around to getting the Pet Sounds DVD-A because of all the bad comments about it so those five songs will have to suffice as my multichannel Beach Boys collection.

That's too bad. I guess Mute did not use the same team responsible for the amazing mixes done for the Deluxe Editions. Thanks for letting me know! You've just saved me over $30. (y)

Simon A, I recommend BEACH BOYS - PET SOUNDS.

Mark Linnet did an amazing job mixing from mono to stereo and then 5.1. Silverline could have learned from this release, or at best consulted with Linnet on how to get it better.

I had the SHM-SACD version and it was poor...I sold it on Ebay...that rarely happens with SHM discs..and the DVD-A isn't good either..IMO...I haven't given up hope...I'm waiting on this one

Paul McCartney- The McCartney Years... This has been sitting on the shelf for years but I've never watched it ( didn't even realize I owned it!) Someone here at QQ recently mentioned it, so now I'm listening to it with the video display turned off. Wow! His greatest hits in 5.1. Right now "Heart of the Country" is making me wish for my favorite Paul album in 5.1: "Ram". This is SO GREAT!!!:party:party:party

Played it also yesterday and the mixes are really well done. Too many missing tracks though. I wish they added Live And Let Die, Dear Friend, Wild Life and Getting Closer. I also agree with you that Ram in 5.1 is a dream I wish would come true. I'd also love it if AF would release Band On The Run on 5.1 SACD.
