I'm afraid I will have to count myself out of this one too unless the price comes down *a lot* - the 5 DVD's are pretty much useless since the blu-ray discs are included, and the memorabilia is not of much interest, just another way to add to the price. I might bite if it falls below $200, maybe...super-sale down to $150 and I'm in.

I just got the Tangerine Dream box for $60. Fairly tales do come true, it can happen to you.

I'm really excited that this is being released (Floyd in surround is always great news!), but I just can't do it. I didn't buy The Early Years mega set either, but I did get the individual Early Years sets when they were released later on... I hope they do the same here (although all I really want is AMLOR 5.1).

Inclusion of blu rays and dvds seems to cover the fact that some people haven’t seen the need to upgrade to blu ray.

Unlike the Early Years set though, the Later Years set has one extra blu ray, the hi res 5.1 studio album mixes.

Wonder what the logic is behind this and how DVD only fans will feel...

This would be tempting if there weren't 5 dvds which replicate the blurays..the price would also be far more reasonable.

I suppose two versions, one with dvds and one with blurays, never occured to them as they seem to think their fan base has more money than sense unfortunately.

The main box cover art looks more like something that would be associated with "Two Suns in the Sunset" off of the Final Cut.
It is a cool apocalyptic type image with bent up light poles & beat up road.

My guess on this decision (extra Blu-Ray only) is that you simply could not fit the same amount of data onto a DVD and they didn't want to add any more discs to the set. If that's the case, it makes sense to me.

Even though I like the later Floyd quite a bit, I'm afraid I won't be buying this either. I have to pay the mortgage that month.

I just cant justify it. I'd mainly be interested in the studio 5.1 mixes. The live videos are a bonus. I already have the studio stuff with the exception of AMLOR.

I have a feeling this is not going to go over well.

I get the sense that for many folks, DVD is good enough and they may not be able to ascertain the difference in the quality shift from DVD to BR. Add to it the streaming factor and people just aren't buying players like in the past. As far as this set is concerned, I can't see this selling many copies at almost $500/box. Likely niche groups like us and die hard PF fans will spend, but put this front and center at Best Buy or Barnes & Noble and I'd wager that it's a dust collector rather than a set thousands of people will purchase on new release Tuesday.

This seems aimed directly at the diehard PF fan/collector/completist. Maybe they just ran the numbers and came up with a cost based on how many Early Years sets were sold in the first quarter and at what level they make sufficient profit. I'll pass .. I'm probably 5+ years away from their target anyway.
