TFF. Cobo Hall. Detroit. Sept 1985. One of my top 5 concerts ever. Not number 1, but real close. Ive got the new release ordered in Atmos and SHM

My first TFF show was the following month in Worcester, MA. Wasn't too familiar with them, only knew the hits, but the show made me a fan for life. Saw the following tour in 1990 three times. Those shows rank among the best I've ever seen by anyone. Oleta Adams was in the band. Truly special.

For me, watching concert at Home is a different experience than beeing at the show.

It would be like beeing at the show if the video producion is done from a static camera from the audience, so you see the same (or similar thing) that you see at the show.

But when the video editing production brings you lots of close shots, to see how musicians are performing, then it is a different thing.

Beeing a different thing, then why not 'hearing' it in a different way, like Dolby Atmos discrete mix with ping-pongs sounds and pannings like from the studio recordings.

The needed 'connection' to the show has to be good sound production and beeing in sync with the video.

If you feel that's not realistc, or you don't like that the sounds locations does not correspond with the musicians locations at screen, then you can switch to stereo, that would be perhaps more similar to the sound at the live show.
Agree with everything you say.
And don't forget, when you're at home, sitting in your comfy chair, in your dressing gown, playing the music, well, that ain't even remotely close to tricking me I'm in some kind of concert experience. So bring on the exciting surround experience. :D:pšŸ˜

With the disc experience you do miss the people nearby you, who just came to hear Everybody Wants To Rule the World, talking very loudly to their friends (about where to go after the show) so that they can be heard over the less-familiar songs.

Which seems to be true at every big show I go to any more, including TFF at the Hollywood Bowl recently.

Looking forward to this.

With the disc alternative, there is also a different experience, when watching a live video concert at home (which is the usual) than when watching a 'studio' live concert without audience, like Pineapple Thief-Nothing but the Truth, RPWL-God has failed or the legendary Pink Floyd at Pompeii.

It is something similar to 'only audio' live vs studio albums. All alternatives are valid. Remember Machine Head vs Made in Japan ?

Right? Tickets are so expensive, you want to enjoy it w/o excessive nonsensical chatter.

"Do you want me to have the band turn down so you don't have to yell?" [FFS]

My favorite 8" Laserdisc! They used the other performances from the 2 nights that were not used for the album release.
My friend had it. It sounded amazing like the album but also with the video performance. Five tracks and a couple were different takes than the album if I remember correctly.

OK, why not ?
But why don't they go the extra mile then?
Why don't we get instrumental versions of concerts?
Why don't we get audience free/music only versions?

Performances were very, very similar.

Interesting questions. For me, as I have a surround system, I would like the surround mix to fully utilise that, rather than pretend to be what it isn't, i.e. as if I was at the concert, with it's limitations of being frontcentric and people possible blocking your, chatting around you etc, stuff one puts up with at a live show. But an instrumental version of a concert? Probably not that.

(Though who knows! For example, if a string quartet, brass section or orchestra was used, perhaps it would be intriguing to hear just from them as an alternative, such as that Marillion album with a quartet, Live at St David, I think it was called).

Could be nice hear in the rear right channel the voice of someone "singing" the song or talking.
Like a probootleg with 5.1 or atmos.
