I guess I can share my attempts at figuring this out since the 2nd clue has disproven my "conclusions"
Using the quad label page, I made a list of catalog numbers. But I'm probably missing things not originally under the WEA umbrella that would need to be added, I don't have the extensive spreadsheets some have.
So then I found how to use excel to determine how to make a specific sum using a group of numbers, although I don't know that it finds every combination.
But, my first result was a match with these 4:
1004 - Eagles - On the Border
5058 - Stardrive - Intergalactic Trot
9005 - Eric Salzman - Wiretap
2866 - James Taylor - Gorilla
Which add up to 17933.
Which never in a million years would I have expected the Wiretap album to make the list - but it was recently referenced when I questioned Finnadar. Coincidence?
But then the next hint came out
one male artist
one female artist
one group
one duo
Well, I have no duo, and I have no female artist. Depending on what you consider Stardrive, I either have 3 male artists and a group, or 2 male artists and 2 groups.
The obvious go to for Duo would be Seals and Crofts. Female artist has a lot of possibilities.
So then I suppose the next task would be to get 4 groups of numbers, and come up with a method of making the sum from 1 number from each group - but at that point I decided it was time to close the spreadsheets, and play some more GTA online.
Still not sure what to make of the Eric Salzman thing though - 17933 requires at least one large number in there somewhere, and 9005 helps get things there. But - that's still a rather unlikely one to surface. Would be pretty wild though.
