Weren't the Joni Mitchell quads released by Asylum in the US and later purchased by Warner? Are they ruled out for this batch of Rhino releases?

Yes, Joni's quads were on Asylum, which could make a future Rhino release a possibility. However, the little bit of info that we have says that the four upcoming titles come from albums that were on Atlantic, Warner and Grunt, which would presumably rule out Joni. But as a second batch is already in the works, we can keep our fingers crossed that Joni is still a possibility somewhere down the road.

It's still possible. I mean, a couple Kristoffersons' came out on RA360 and then came the D-V disc set.
ahh.. you're right 👌 many things are possible with Papa Dutton and his magical little elves 🥰🤞🤩

hope they're hard at work on a brand new bitchin' batch as we speak 🤤🥳🤞 after all there's only so much dreadful, i mean lovely 🤐🤣 new Pop, Rap and Hip Hop in Atmos streaming i can endure!! 😉😅🤣

"Court and Spark" is to Joni as singer-songwriter's album what "Darkness" is to Springsteen. It's like Bruce takes you out to the "rattlesnake speedway in the Utah desert" Joni goes way out there on the waves of Malibu and those exclusive parties.

There has been rumblings that Joni was in the studio listening as some Atmos mixes were being done not long ago which may include the "Court" album. But I would hope the quad mixes of this and Hissing of the Summer Lawns" could be issued under the Quadio banner due to them being authentic 70s period mixes, and good ones too I recall.

There was some (bad) red tape involved with anything Joni a few years back (not going into it here). And I think that has now been resolved - seeing how much vintage and vault Joni material has been unearthed in recent years.

So yeah, a "Court and Spark original quad mix on modern disc would be a total audiophile knock-out!

"Sail Away" is Randy's "Mona Lisa" to some listeners (so glad that got a very tasteful quad mix), and "Good Old Boys" is tied for his finest 70s album as well (my favorite). So there's that.

"Sundown" is Gordon's top selling single album, and obviously features one of his best songs and highest charting hits. I find "Cold On The Shoulder" is musically way up there. These are Reprise Records releases, so no I am not expecting these in the soon coming four.

I am hoping we'll see some Reprise, Elektra, and Asylum issues out of this before too long though.

Fair enough Fred, one mans ceiling is another mans floor. ;)
hahaaa 🤣😅 maybe we'll get some Paul Simon Quads on disc after all!! 🤔 that'd be.. umm.. real swell!! 🙏🥳🤞 we know the guys with the insider knowledge, when i pester them for crumbs they tell me "shut up and play yer guitar Fweddums, you're gonna love what's comin' down your way!" so that's just what i do these days, sit tight and wait for the goody goody yum yum's to come and they haven't stopped comin' yet! 🤤 mmm.. coffee and donut time! ☕🍩🥰

Same here, but to be honest I believe all the really popular 70s quad recordings have been done. This is just whats left.
Well, we did get some incredible 4-channel mixes from the 70s already. Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, and Ten Years After, Jeff Beck, Santana, Clapton among some very strong stuff. But the Warner Bros. stuff has mostly remained elusive. Some of us think that Machine Head in it's US quad mix (WB) is preferred over the 5.1 from '99 or the UK quad mix (EMI) which came out twice in Europe. One of the seminal heavy metal albums. Paranoid tops even that for being a "rite of passage" for young teen males exploring metal and hard rock. And then Alice's landmark B$B was also a rite of passage, hard rock meets glitter and the result was like a printing money machine going 24/7 for WB and the Cooper Band. Three of the most iconic rock albums ever cut, and the quad mixes sitting for 50 years waiting to be excavated. VERY Exciting!!!

Joni, and Jackson define what the singer-songwriter meant in the 70s. Divine Miss M is in need of reevaluation, both the material and as quad demo material. All theses are fairly exciting. Many others as well. I keep thinking that Mingus would fly, his catalog keeps getting reissues from all labels and all periods, and that "Mingus Moves" album is hot as hell, I'm not kidding.

What I would really like to know is how many of the canceled 70s quad releases were actually mixed in quad and were never released. Like Billy Cobham "Spectrum" has been more than confirmed. Was Uriah Heep's Return to Fantasy really done? Burn? Captain Beyond? Bloodshot?? ...Even if they cannot be cleared for release, does anyone know if these exist? The Heep catalog might not be controlled by Warner at this time. Captain Beyond might not be a strong enough seller?

But still very exciting possibilities imo.
