Hi all.
While we wait for the April release on "Brain Salad Surgery", I found an update on "Trilogy" from Jakko's Twitter. Someone asked:
Meant to ask if ELP Trilogy has been worked on yet, and if there'll be any unreleased tracks.
To which Jakko replied:
it's done. I suggested some stuff. Not sure they'll use em

So news headline: "TRILOGY" IS FINISHED! Now, let's hope that it will finally come out in the summer or (more likely) fall of this year! :)

Thanks for the great update RT!

But we have learned that many albums get remixed into 5.1 and then they get stuck in record company limbo. Lets pray that Trilogy actually gets released. I learned to play the piano parts of "Trilogy" back in high school. I can't wait to hear the whole Trilogy suite in 5.1! :smokin ;) :phones (y)

Ok, as a self-admitted YES-ELP-Gentle Giant lunatic, I see this as good news:

The lack of BSS era recordings like "When The Apple Blossoms Bloom In The Windmills Of Your Mind..." or Brain Salad Surgery(the song) in 5.1 means we may get them on a separate Works Vol I & II 5.1 discrete 5.1 mix!

Argh Matey!!!! Thar be Pirates on the Horizon! Batten down the hatches make fast your souls we are Eldorado bound! :smokin

I think I would trade all of good sir FredBlue's non-prog 5.1 discs for Pirates in 5.1! ;)

er...what were you hoping for?

This looks pretty interesting to me, for an album for which already exists as a very good 5.1 mix. I'll probably order it.

Ok, here is a serious question:

http://elp.merchnow.com/products/172140/emerson-lake-and-palmer-trilogy-180g-black-lp

ELP are selling Trilogy on vinyl already for example. Also, the 5 album classic ELP LP set was sold last year on "2013 Record Day".
This is long before Jakko could have finished the remix from the original tapes so it means an old master tape was used for the pressing.

No information whatsoever is given about the provenance of the source of the pressing. We know from our very own Neil Wilkes about the late generation
analog tape rubbish that can be used to press an LP record.

I'm not an LP-vinyl believer but I will buy a collector edition LP for fun if it comes from a good source, my question is:

Why don't the vinyl faithful seem to care about the original source tape that gets stamped to LP?

With no information being given by the record company, any old "master" tape could have be used for the LP production.

How do we know the source of what goes into these "collector edition" LP records?

I think that $52 is a pretty fair price for the 3 discs (one a DVD-A), a 180 gram LP, and a t-shirt (sure beats marbles and scarves). Or $33 w/o the t-shirt. At least there are options to please all. :)
