Thanks for the video! Yes, lots of fun. I love the minstrel aspect to their style. Actually, I didn't know what to expect after reading some less than enthusiastic comments. I can see why this might not be some people's cup of tea. I'm really looking forward to hearing the surround mix.

Btw, I added a video link to one of Ars Cantus's performances to my post above. It's not quite the same as Gentle Giant. It's pretty good, too though ;)

You can probably tell I have a fondness for brass music of the Baroque era. So, this Telarc SACD naturally found its way into my player this morning. Telarc has produced several excellent "Discrete Multi-channel Surround" recordings over the years...as many here who are familiar with "Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Latin Album" will already know. This one is for brass quintet and organ. Most of the pieces are well known baroque favorites given lively (if not historically accurate) performances. The Empire Brass takes a slightly more romantic/modern approach, which IMHO is fine when the results are as delightful as these.

Sounds juicy.. Is it as uber discrete as those two LAGQ discs?

I was just discussing this one on another thread. No, it's not as discrete as the LAGQ discs. It has more of what I would call a deep soundstage that attempts to capture the reverberation of the recording venue at Luther College.

For a recording of baroque brass music with clearly discrete elements, try these 2 SACDs:

An absolutely gorgeous recording of medieval choral polyphony. The singers are joined by recorder, fiddles, mandora and organ. The recording uses the rear channels very effectively to immersively recreate the deep resonance of the Convent of the Ursuline Sisters.
Beautifully atmospheric and highly recommended!

Far out! :D Speaking of Italian Metal, are you familiar with Ufomammut?
I got "Ufomammut ‎– XV Fifteen Years Of Ufomammut" DVDV on one of those spur of the moment kind of things and... I was surprised that it's pretty good. They're coming your way on May 13.

The Charlie Byrd Trio - The Bossa Nova Years. Plenty of Jobim classics as you might expect with tasteful, if somewhat restrained, performances. Ambient mix apart from a small handful of tunes where light percussion (shaker, triangle, etc) pops up in surrounds.
