Yes, I think people who are critical of a 5.1 discrete mix don't realize that since this is done on 30 year old music it is not possible to have the band or the original engineer there and the mix will frankly be somebody elese's intrepretation, which by definition make it non-objective and you can always find something to fault since it will vary from the original 2.0 mix. Do I think Steven Wilson's 5.1 mixes are absolute & definitive? No. But he is a genius and a godsend to the 5.1 community and should be given a fookin medal, I say!

I think the problem with Fragile may be that the music was surprisingly simple for a prog band and when it spreads out over 5 channels it gets a little thin, and that may be a bit alarming to some.

I love your avatar by the way, though my favorite music is progressive rock, my all time favorite 5.1 discrete mix just may be Elton's Captain Fantastic. That mix is pure perfection and I feel so lucky for the experience each time I play it in 5.1. All of the Elton John mixes are great, IMHO..

Now if they would just properly do RUSH in 5.1 we will be all set!

Thank you Dennis!

You nailed it with how I feel about those old Warner/Rhino DVD-A mixes! this stuff wasn't made yesterday and it is these guys' mix and their take on the material, its not gonna do it for everyone (and I respect that) but they are excellent mixes in the scheme of things, so superior to so many I've heard.

SW is an extremely talented guy and yes a real hero for us QQ-ers, Elliot Scheiner certainly was a great influence on his 5.1 learning curve (and it shows!).. I simply cannot wait for SW's Yes & JT mixes.. that said, there are a good few others doing/who did 5.1 who are great too, not least ES.. he doesn't get it right everytime but there are far more ES hits than misses, I so wish there were more of his mixes out there.

Captain Fantastic's still my favourite surround SACD (300-odd of them later that's not to be sniffed at!) it really is a masterclass in how to take an already great album and elevate it to the very pinnacle of what can be done with classic rock & pop when mixed into 5.1.

I've given up on the Rush 5.1's, they just don't do it for me.. it's sad when there's such scope for amazing surround mixes of their classic material to have got such dross.

Absolutely!

I'll have to dig out my SACD copy of "Captain Fantastic" and give it another listen. I have not heard it since it first came out. I've been too busy listening to "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", mostly, "Madman Across The Water" and the recent HDtracks released stereo version of "Captain Fantastic". I have a SACD version of "Tumbleweed Connection" that I purchased about 4 years ago and still haven't opened it.@:

I'm up in the air regarding purchasing this disc. I got real burnt out on Yes, several years ago.

deffo! (y) and time to open that Tumbleweed at last too! :D TC in 5.1 is a stunner! right up there mixwise with the rest of the Greg Penny 5.1's, its both subtle and sympathetic befitting the slower numbers and its kick out the jams mofo on things like Burn Down The Mission (blasting horns in the rears have never felt so good!) and the Mick Ronson take on "Madman" with its quad-tastic crazy panning round the room is a surround lovers' wet dream!!!! oh and sound quality's breathtaking.

I wager you'll be ordering SW's 5.1 Close To The Edge come October when you see all the "10" votes rolling in here at QQ! ;)

Shipping from USA to Canada has more than tripled lately. I'd bet it's Canada's fault though. They probably increased the costs on their end.

beside shipping cost, amazon lately started to charge deposit on possible custom duty. but anyway still not as bad as
purchses from EU. so best way to do purchase at amazon other than local, it's through someone living in US or Europe
with free shipping to local receivers with following re-shipping by them with small writting on the box, sort like "happy
birthday" or "happy anniversary" or such with minimal value of the parcel.

Hopefully it is the full length version of America, runs for about 10 min from memory.

I am excited about this as much as the ELP 5.1 issues

It most certainly is the full-length version. Not only that, but there is a transfer of the original stereo version plus new 2013 stereo & 5.1 versions too.

Thanks Neil for the clarification! Can't wait! :sun :phones  (y)

(I can't tell you guys how many times I have actually driven on The New Jersey Turnpike...)

(I can't tell you guys how many times I have actually driven on The New Jersey Turnpike...)

I did that once by accident; I got horribly lost driving in Manhattan trying to get back to Long Island and took the bridge on the worng side of the river (all in the days before SatNav.) ...may have only been the New Jersey Turnpike Extension (?) but I think that's close enough? ;)

Oh yeh? try this one- coming back from VA-in NYC-drove right past upstate NY exit ramp to thruway and straight to CT, drove clear across the state, got lost, and it was a newspaper delivery truck that saved my ass. moron is me!@:

All you geographically impaired people would love my neighborhood. There is Rawson Bridge Rd., W. Rawson Bridge Rd. and S. Rawson Bridge Rd. There are 3 different streets with the same name.@: https://mts0.google.com/vt/data=UcA...ybqhLhY9BHiCV0bt4_SqLM0rQJlKHD4Q3xYYWTPj8_wlU

We now return you to Yes - Close to the Edge, er is it No - Already Over the Edge?

Atlantic City back to Philadelphia- which parkway? Asbury Park 11 miles? Crap

Clothes To The Hedge, got carried away with getting lost stories.

As penance, I shall purchase both versions of CTTE. (Which I planned on all along)

My good man, you actually wound up on the "good side" of the river. ;) New Jersey is called "The Garden State" for a reason. Most New Yorkers who speak ill of New Jersey, frankly have never been there or actually dream of living there! Jersey has great pizza & both of New York's Football teams! Next time you visit we will have to get you some fresh Jersey corn when it is in season and some fresh strawberries. Go to NYC to get mugged or choke on CO fumes(or pay $25.00 to cross a bridge).

;)

Being a Philly boy, I had many experiences on the NJ Turnpike. But my most memorable ones were when I drove up to the docks for the Honda dealership I worked at; driving a van pulling a trailer that I'd get loaded w/ crated motorcycles. It was pretty amazing seeing a warehouse with thousands of new bikes all stacked in countless rows. I got to uncrate those babies and "build" them, i.e. assemble prep and test ride. I got to ride a ton of hot bikes back then- fun days!

North Jersey in this area is really seedy- gave me a real taste of what was depicted in the Soprano's. A far cry from S & G's America (to slide back on topic). You wouldn't go lookin for that America...
