I am fascinated with this Atmos mix. Up until now, I've pretty much assumed that the 7th and 8th channels were used for ambient stuff, like echoes and reverb, they were there to add space. But this mix of Abbey Road is more than that, it's real. There is real stuff there that is nowhere else.

If you look at the comparison wav files below, you can see that sometimes the channels 7 and 8 have what is in the 5.1 mixes 5 and 6 channels (rears), yet in other songs they don't. You can also see that the fronts in the Atmos mix are less loud, which to me would indicate that some audio stuff has been pulled from the fronts and put in the other channels. This is very encouraging.

I am now more than ever tempted to go "all in" on an Atmos upgrade, which is something I thought I would never do. Very nice job by Giles and the team on this one. This could actually be one of the greatest surround mixes of the past decade.

So you’d give it an “11”? You’d break the poll!

My copy from Bullmoose was delivered in impeccable condition just a little over a half hour ago. Bullmoose, BTW, is in South Portland, Maine(as a ”Masshole” I want to be sure my “Mainiac” neighbors to the north receive their due credit).

The music is, of course, great and the 5.1 mix is also stellar (I don’t have an Atmos setup), but don’t forget to also read the book. The track by track information is a fun read and of a very high standard.

Jon, I'm not familiar with the Sound Forge channel assignments (think that's what you use) for the wave forms; so does it go?:
1- FL
2- FR
3- C
4- Sub
5- RL
6- RR
7- SL
8- SR

The ATMOS version of I WANT YOU ends with an auditory drenching.....the music and sound both feel as if they are moving through, over and around every inch of your body and space when suddenly it is all sucked out of the room; you take a breath and then somewhere from in front of you the quiet and delicate acoustic guitar announces HERE COMES THE SUN. The vastness of the ATMOS image and the dramatic change of scenic scale cannot be approached by the 5.1 DTS Master. Make no mistake...the extraordinary clarity and wonderful low end of this release is in the DNA of the DTS Master as well as being able to hear those voices as if they’re in the room, but the dynamics belong to the ATMOS version alone. It soars and tickles the brain. It is almost like induced synesthesia. A little bit can be a great deal more. A dull shine...no a glint...no it’s gleaming.
I think Jon mentioned that he wished we had something like this in 1975....we were given a taste with LOVE, but now we have been given a little or maybe a lot more. It seems that talented people can bring about joy in unexpected, but very welcome ways. Boy, am I wondering about that ATMOS version of SGT. PEPPER.
Bravo!

So @dwight, a lot of folks here are wondering with such a glowing endorsement why you voted an 8 in the Poll? Of course your opinions are yours, we just would like the whole story for how you arrived at that number - Thanks :)

Now playing the DTS HD version.
Magical

I have my rears raised for my own enjoyment, as I like to hear what they are producing more than the fronts.

I am sure this helps to show what a superb mix this is.

And this really benefits from being played loud, to fully appreciate all the new elements I'm hearing, from each track!!

My smile will last for ever more. :QQlove

I put my better speakers in the back for the same reason you raise the levels of the rears.
